Talend, a leading provider of open source data integration software, recently announced the availability of version 3.1 of its data integration solutions, Talend Open Studio and Talend Integration Suite. Talend Open Studio is the free, open source version of the software and is a full data integration platform. Talend Integration Suite is the commercial product version for which Talend charges a subscription price, and is an enterprise-grade offering that extends the functionality of Talend Open Studio. Some of these functionality extensions include additional features for collaboration and deployment in large enterprise settings, and the provision of technical support.
Key features in version 3.1 for both products include new monitoring and scheduling capabilities, enhanced business modeling and broader connectivity to legacy systems and business applications. Version 3.1 is highly focused on interoperability with the rest of the information system, extending the versatility of the solution and its reach across an organization. In addition, this new release also offers a localized user interface in numerous languages.
Specifically, Talend version 3.1 offers enterprise monitoring with Nagios (an industry standard platform for enterprise-class system, network and application monitoring), a new Task Execution Dashboard that provides at-a-glance visibility on all data integration processes, additional legacy systems and business applications integration, a redesigned Business Modeler that enables non-technical users to create workflow-type representations of data integration processes, and contributed language packs for localized user interface.
Yves Montcheuil, vice president of market strategy for Talend, tells 5 Minute Briefing that the Nagios monitoring enables Talend software to be more embeddable into larger enterprise IT management frameworks such as OpenView and Tivoli, while the Task Execution Dashboard provides a better view into specific ETL tasks such as what is scheduled to run in the future, what has already executed, and the results of transformations.
