Tools for Migrating and Modernizing Data in the Cloud

As companies accelerate cloud transformation of enterprise workloads, there is a unique opportunity to modernize legacy databases to cloud-native SQL, NoSQL, and big data services to improve agility and reduce costs.

However, modernization requires more than typical point-to-point or "lift-and-shift" database migration approaches that break when there are differences in the VM, OS, DB stack, changes to database structure, or conversions to new database topologies.

The hybrid cloud requires a new approach that flexibly migrates data to heterogeneous databases, multiple public and private clouds, and various topologies of source and target databases.

DBTA recently held a webinar with Mark Hoerth, director of customer success, Griddable.io, and Mehdi Bouarek, market development, Griddable.io, who discussed  how to automate migration of Oracle to Postgres while changing schema, re-shard and modernize Oracle to multiple SQL and NoSQL targets on different clouds simultaneously, and dynamically create database copies across clouds.

Griddable.io creates a smart grid for enterprise data. The platform can replicate transactions after bulk initial load, has a cloud-first architecture based on LinkedIn open core that guarantees transactional consistency, and uses declarative language to define data filters, transformation, and masking in transit.

According to Hoerth and Bouarek, companies are looking for a solution that manages copies in the cloud, has one-step database migration, and Oracle db cloud modernization.

Griddable allows users to create/update/track copies of operational data with masking to protect regulated data, migrate entire databases from onpremise to clouds & consolidated DBaaS using logical replication, and transform Oracle DBs to open source/cloud-native data services in any relational and non-relational data format.
