Trend Micro Adds Security Heft to VMware's Software-Defined Networking

Trend Micro says it is collaborating with VMware to integrate Trend Micro's Deep Security with VMware NSX, the platform for network virtualization. The goal is to provide a security framework for joint customers that increases protection and automates security deployments in virtualized data centers.

"When we developed VMware NSX, we recognized customers have made huge investments in security infrastructure. We developed VMware NSX as an extensible platform that leverages a distributed service framework for easy insertion of partner services such as those offered by Trend Micro," said Hatem Naguib, vice president of cloud networking and security for VMware. "Through this integration, our joint customers can realize the promise of VMware NSX itself – better, faster and more secure IT services."

As part of the Trend Micro Cloud and Data Center Security Solution, Deep Security integrates anti-malware, Web reputation and firewall in addition to intrusion prevention, integrity monitoring and log inspection to protect mission-critical applications and data. The platform employs agentless and agent-based protection to automatically secure virtual servers and desktops, as well as private and public clouds.
