Tweaking the Software Development Lifecycle with Delphix

Poor-quality test data leads to poor production applications, compliance risks, and inefficiencies that will be costing the organization time, money, and very soon its competitive edge.

DBTA recently held a webinar, Repair Broken Test Data: The Source of Your SDLC Problems, with Paul Hermsen, senior sales engineer, Delphix and Grant Ward, principal sales engineer, Delphix, who discussed best practices to ensure high-quality releases at a faster pace, all while staying audit compliant and reducing operational costs.

Tech-driven innovation is rapidly changing, Hermsen and Ward said, and modern enterprises need to embrace a new approach to data. It is a business imperative to transform speed and cost while ensuring compliance and security.

According to Hermsen, there are some key metrics and markers which organizations need to consider: How quickly do you release software today? Once a year, once a quarter, monthly? This needs to accelerate dramatically to keep pace. Everyone is DevOps and Agile…but are you? Or, like many are you just pretending to be, I suppose you could call this 'DevOps or Agile washing'….and when you come to think upon it, what’s holding you back? How are you using cloud? Is it just another basement data center with a different (and often more expensive) billing method?

A future-proofed testing architecture should consist of:

  • Data delivery: fast, automated, and secure
  • Data compliance: protect the data itself
  • Data control: enterprise-wide platform
  • Data infrastructure: virtual, ephemeral environments

“Organizations that we speak to are trying to transform at speed in order to remain competitive and bring new features to market,” Grant said. “We see automation playing a big role in everything that happens within the SDLC.”

Delphix created the DevOps Data Platform to meet today’s requirements for data, automating data delivery and compliance—anywhere in your business, Hermsen said. It’s a software solution that deploys in your on-prem datacenter or any cloud environment. It connects to production data sources and non-disruptively builds a continuous record of data changes over time.

Empowering your Dev/Test teams is the surest way to meet your customer, business, and technical goals, they recommended.  The time to value with Delphix is very short—days, weeks, and months, rather than months and years.
