Unisys Business Information Server (BIS), formerly MAPPER, is a rapid-application development and information access tool that has been available for many years, but new features and functionality, such as integration with mobile devices and Java connectivity, are being added all the time.
The upcoming BIS for ClearPath OS 2200 release 47R1 contains dozens of new features. This presentation will detail many of those new features, and give examples of how each feature can be used.
Goldberg, a Unisys employee for 32 years, joined the BIS 2200 development organization in 1996. He has been a major contributor in enhancing BIS 2200 security and scalability.
Using - Really Using - COBOL-85

If you are like this speaker, you switched to the COBOL-85 compiler a long time ago, but kept coding in the same style you used for COBOL-74. This was so easy to do, COBOL-85 being a superset of COBOL-74, and retaining essentially all of the MCP extensions to the standard language. The super part of that superset is really super, however. COBOL-85 contains a rich collection of features that allow us to write cleaner, clearer, and more maintainable programs. 25 years after the introduction of those features, it's high time we all started using them.
The speaker will review the additions in COBOL-85 syntax that allow us to write programs in a much different way than with earlier COBOL dialects. This review will focus on the much-improved flow-of-control constructs, data declaration and manipulation enhancements, and the intrinsic functions. Based on these features, the speaker will discuss the new style of programming he has developed over the past few years, along with examples of that new style and how, for him, it has replaced some of the really ugly stuff you had to do in COBOL-74.
While this presentation is specifically oriented to COBOL-85 for the MCP, programmers for other platforms will find much of this presentation applicable to COBOL-85 in their environment.
Kimpel started his career with Burroughs in 1970 on the then-new B6500, working with Large Systems at Burroughs and a few user sites through the 1970s. He started his own company in 1979 and continues to provide consulting, training, support, and custom software development services for ClearPath MCP systems. His main interests are in the areas of data base and transaction processing system design, web-enabled user interfaces, integration of MCP and Microsoft environments, TCP/IP networking, and object-oriented programming.

Nichols has worked at Unisys for over 26 years, including 17 years with the Client Support Center, supporting the EAE (previously LINCII) and Agile Business Suite software. In those roles, he has not only worked with clients on problem resolution, but has conducted numerous onsite training sessions on the EAE and AB Suite software.
