U.S. President Trump’s AI Action Plan Gives Big Tech Unrivaled Power

The Trump Administration rolled out a plan to reign in regulations to speed up the development of AI tools and the infrastructure to power them.

"The Action Plan's objective is to articulate policy recommendations that this Administration can deliver for the American people to achieve the President's vision of global AI dominance," the report said.

By reducing state-level regulatory barriers and withholding federal funding for jurisdictions with “overly restrictive” AI rules, the administration seeks to establish a unified national framework for AI development.

Central to the plan is a $90 billion investment from major technology companies, including Google and Blackstone, to build data centers and enhance energy infrastructure to meet rising computational demands. The initiative also features the “Stargate” program, a $500 billion private investment effort aimed at modernizing AI infrastructure and improving cybersecurity for critical systems.

“The Department of Labor looks forward to executing the critical AI Action Plan efforts that will support our workforce, including expanding AI literacy nationwide, creating a new hub to analyze AI’s impact on the labor market, and piloting innovative models to help workers succeed in an AI-driven economy,” said U.S. Deputy Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling.

A coalition of advocacy groups and tech critics urged the administration to ensure the government would hold large tech firms accountable as AI grows.

"We can't let Big Tech and Big Oil lobbyists write the rules for AI and our economy at the expense of our freedom and equality, workers and families' well-being, even the air we breathe and the water we drink—all of which are affected by the unrestrained and unaccountable roll-out of AI," the People's AI Action Plan coalition said.

CNN recently reported that the FDA’s recent roll out of its AI drug approval process is plagued with errors and hallucinations, with its AI assistant “making up nonexistent studies" and refusing to self-correct.
