Among the circus of buzzwords thrown around tech today, cyber resilience remains a coveted—yet elusive—concept. What does it mean to build a truly cyber resilient enterprise?
Sanam Mittal, general manager of DXi, Quantum, joined DBTA’s webinar, The Recipe To Build a Cyber Resilience Solution That Works, breaking down the fundamentals of cyber resiliency and offering guidance on how to build an effective cyber resilience framework.
To begin, Mittal defined cyber resilience, explaining how it’s an organization’s ability to prepare for, respond to, and bounce back from adversities while keeping essential business functions running.
“At the end of the day, there is a critical…goal for any IT organization—and that is to keep the business up and running,” said Mittal. It’s clear, then, how cyber resilience plays a crucial role in ensuring continuous business operations.
It’s easy to confound cyber security with cyber resilience, though Mittal highlights a core difference: While cybersecurity is concerned with thwarting attacks—and is certainly a piece of cyber resilience—cyber resilience is a much broader approach to adversities.
Today, cyber resilience is concerned with processes such as rapid data recovery, fast restoration of infrastructure, continuous validation of data integrity, and continuous data replication. Being able to both withstand and recover from attacks—comprehensively and quickly—are at the core of cyber resilience.
Ultimately, implementing a cyber resiliency framework of processes and controls should be every IT manager’s and CISO’s top priority—but how is it implemented?
Mittal offered a recipe for building an effective cyber resilience solution, spanning hardware and software. Key to this recipe is the implementation of Quantum DXi backup appliances, which have been re-engineered to meet today’s cyber resilience demands. Offering disaster recovery, retention locks, continuous replication, and more, it also delivers:
- Inline data reduction at the lowest cost and highest performance
- All flash hardware and feature set to support cyber resiliency
- Simple operations, fast data access, and scalability
- Deployability across edge, core, and cloud
