Finding& Fixing Performance Problems in a Complex Application & Database System
Tuesday, January 21, 2014
12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. CST

Alarm SMS messages and emails are being sent by the performance monitoring system to the production DBA team and the development team alerting everyone that the latest release of a critical business application and the underlying databases are grinding to a halt.

  • The developers, QA team, and DBAs all point fingers at each other.
  • The developers say "My code is perfect. It passed all of the unit, system and load tests".
  • The QA team says "we tested and certified the code, the SQL, and the database".
  • The DBAs say “the production servers are configured according to the specifications and have all of the latest updates.”

Has this ever happened to you?

IOUG Oracle EM SIG Techcast: Managing Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c with Oracle Clusterware
Tuesday, January 28, 2014
12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. CST

Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c provides a complete monitoring framework for applications, middleware, and infrastructure. Configuring it for high availability is recommended to ensure continuous monitoring. A level-2 HA configuration provides this ability while reducing costs. Such a configuration has multiple management service hosts with a shared file system. The management service can fail over to any available host. Oracle Clusterware is the glue that enables seamless failover of not only databases but also applications.

This presentation details the steps required to configure virtual host names and create an Oracle Clusterware resource for Oracle Enterprise Manager to provide seamless failover and improved high availability levels.

Achieve Continuous Database Availability with Active-Active Replication IOUG/Dell Webcast
Thursday, February 6, 2014
12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. CST

To support your organization’s critical applications, you need a simple way to ensure 100 percent uptime. Invariably, there is a database behind every application, which makes database high availability extremely desirable — or even a requirement in most cases.

High availability could mean different things. It could be a measure of application response time, network throughput, database availability or the ability to continuously sample transactions spanning the entire application stack.
Whatever the measure, the ultimate goal of a highly available environment is to maximize the time it’s accessible and operational. Because in today’s global 24x7 business environment, any IT system downtime, planned or unplanned, incurs serious costs.

In this educational session, Dell Software’s Oracle® replication expert, Sujith Kumar, illustrates how you can attain the five sigma’s of high availability using active-active replication in a critical database environment. Sujith will discuss replication techniques that can be easily incorporated into any database environment to prevent or eliminate downtime.

You’ll learn simple methods to:

  • Leverage Oracle data replication to reduce or eliminate planned and unplanned system outages and control high system load.
  • Implement an effective and proven data replication strategy that ensures system and application availability.
  • And much more

Plus, you’ll hear from a Fortune 100 company that uses this practice in their data centers on each end of the United States to avoid disruption and achieve continuous operations by converging their high availability and disaster recovery practices.
