IBM is digging deep into the possibilities of quantum computing, and has even launched a new business and research unit – IBM Q Systems – to explore the possibilities. IBM Q Systems will be available as cloud services, and IBM has made an API available to developers seeking to add quantum power to applications. Enterprises can build interfaces between IBM’s quantum bit (qubit) system and their own computers, without the need for expertise or understanding of quantum mechanics. Potential areas that can be enhanced via quantum computing include drug and materials discovery, supply chains and financial services.
