Connect with the IOUG at Oracle OpenWorld 2013

Independent Oracle Users Group (IOUG) members will be out in force at OpenWorld 2013 - presenting more than 40 sessions on the topics you want to learn about most. Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the IOUG represents the independent voice of Oracle technology and database professionals and allows them to be more productive in their business and careers through context-rich education, sharing best practices, and providing technology direction and networking opportunities.

I look forward to Oracle OpenWorld each year. It is “crazy big” and, like everyone else, I get caught up in the excitement of Oracle technologies. At the same time, there are people that I have not seen in the community for some time, and every autumn, there are conversations that we just pick up and continue.  That is the beauty of being part of the IOUG community at OpenWorld - the opportunities to chat in the hallway with people who have a shared interest in Oracle technologies or meet up at the User Group Pavilion to get your questions answered face to face.

Connect with IOUG at User Forum Sunday

The IOUG’s leadership at Oracle OpenWorld starts with User Forum Sunday on September 22 at Moscone West on Levels 2 and 3 and, continuing right through to the end of the conference, the IOUG will have a strong presence - providing insight, networking opportunities, and educational sessions about the newest Oracle technologies.

For example, Oracle Database 12c represents one of the greatest structural changes in Oracle database technology since 8i, introducing the idea of a multi-tenant database. The IOUG’s involvement in 12c beta testing can be traced back to July 2012 and represents a tangible example of the strong partnership that exists between the group and Oracle. It is also evidence of the IOUG’s commitment to acting as an advocate for members and ensuring that user needs are communicated. A key aspect of the value that IOUG can deliver is the knowledge that results from the hands-on real-world experience of our members.

Opportunity to Learn More About 12c

Your attendance at Oracle OpenWorld is important since this is the first major conference following this major Oracle database release. Even though the IOUG has been involved in the beta testing of 12c database, we expect even more information to be available on the new features and how they are intended to be used. In addition, this will be an opportunity to learn more about how other pieces of the environment such as how Oracle WebCenter and WebLogic Server relates to 12c, as well as the advantages 12c provides for consolidation and highly available systems.

And, there is always information about new features for existing technologies and extended roadmaps for current products at OpenWorld, as well. Oracle WebCenter is another focus area for the IOUG, and we are looking forward to more details around this enterprise suite of products. Big data has also been a hot topic for some time but now there are more organizations that have adopted Oracle technologies to deal with it - and we anticipate more case studies to be available about successful implementations built on Oracle software and hardware.

In addition to major topics such as 12c and engineered systems, the IOUG will present sessions on additional areas that are most relevant to our members - Database Administration & Performance; Oracle WebCenter, Big Data, BI Warehousing/Analytics, Cloud Computing & Virtualizaton, Oracle Enterprise Manager, and more.

IOUG Educational Opportunities

Right after Oracle OpenWorld, the IOUG will also begin the call for presentations for COLLABORATE14, so there is the opportunity to learn about something new at OpenWorld, implement it and share your experience with it at COLLABORATE, the annual technology and applications forum for the Oracle community. And, of course, quality information to help you advance in your career and professional development is provided at ioug.org as well as year-round services such as IOUG educational webcasts and the IOUG Master Class Series.

Stop by and connect with IOUG in the User Group Pavilion at Oracle OpenWorld in Moscone West, 2nd Floor Overlook 2A. We will be there Sunday through Wednesday. For more information, go to www.ioug.org/oow13. I hope to see you there!
