As the co-founder and head of products at Paxata, I never have to explain to customers what data preparation is or what problems we solve. Having spent the last twenty years working for companies like Siebel, Hyperion, and SAP, I have watched data teams struggle to get data ready for analytics in many ways. Some built comprehensive ETL processes, which honestly felt like trying to kill a fly with a Buick. In other cases, they relied on good old Excel or SQL to script, VLOOKUP, filter, and code their way to a decent answer set. Today, the volume and variety of data we are dealing with just makes these two approaches hard to maintain.
That’s why I helped start Paxata. In 2013, we delivered the first Adaptive Data Preparation™ solution built from the ground up to meet the needs of business analysts, data scientists, data architects, and IT teams that want to accelerate the process of getting data ready for analytics, regardless of where it comes from … without losing visibility on how the data was prepared or who worked on it.
