BMC, a provider of data center solutions, announced the results of its 12th annualĀ Mainframe Research Report, highlighting the power and value of the mainframe for digital business. The survey of 1,000 enterprises finds even as many organizations continue to adopt multi-cloud technologies as part of their dramatic transformation, the mainframe remains a relevant and growing data center hub for many. The survey highlights that organizations are committed to the mainframe, as respondents are modernizing their operations and technologies, have a more positive attitude toward the mainframe, and are changing their workforce to ensure the right staffing and skills are on board.

IBM announced a new IBM Cloud Private software platform to help companies unlock billions of dollars in technology investment in core data and applications and extend cloud-native tools across public and private clouds. IBM Cloud Private software is designed to enable companies to create on-premises cloud capabilities similar to public clouds to accelerate app development.

OpenStack community leaders announced a plan to overcome the hardest problem in open source today: integrating and operating open source technologies to solve real-world problems. The OpenStack Foundation and community are investing significant financial and technical resources in a four-part strategy to address integration of OpenStack and relevant open source technologies: documenting cross-project use cases, collaborating across communities, including upstream contributions to other open source projects, fostering new projects at the OpenStack Foundation, and coordinating end-to-end testing across projects.

Parasoft, a provider of automated software testing solutions, announced the latest release of Parasoft SOAtest and Virtualize with expanded support for continuous integration (CI) platforms. To support continuous testing, new plug-ins for continuous integration enable users to parse test results from automated test executions back into common CI platforms such as Bamboo, Jenkins, Microsoft VSTS, and Team City.

Think About It

Some analysts are now predicting that within the next two years, a majority of IT workloads - at least 60% -- will run in the cloud. The three pillars of cloud - Software as a Service, Platform as a Service, and Infrastructure as a Service - continue to gain ground.
