At VMworld 2010, HP yesterday introduced HP CloudStart, an all-in-one solution for deploying an open and flexible private cloud environment within 30 days.

At VMworld, Precise unveiled Precise for Cloud, a transaction performance management solution designed to ensure quality of service (QoS) for applications running on private cloud platforms at the Global 5000 and their global ISPs. Precise for Cloud is intended to solve what the company says are most pressing issues facing cloud architects and virtualization managers: application QoS, performance problem isolation, and problem resolution. Now in beta, the product is expected to be generally available before the end of the year.

HP also announced that it has acquired Stratavia, a privately held database and application automation company based in Denver. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. According to HP, the acquisition of Stratavia will strengthen the HP Software and Solutions portfolio, adding deployment, configuration and management solutions for enterprise databases, middleware and packaged applications. The solutions will help clients simplify application deployment and management in hybrid IT environments, which consist of on-premise, off-premise, physical and virtual environments.

IBM has closed on its acquisition of Sterling Commerce, expanding its ability to help clients accelerate their interactions with customers, partners and suppliers through dynamic business networks using either on-premise or cloud delivery models.

Informative Graphics Corporation, a provider of viewing, collaboration and redaction technology, announced the release of Redact-It for IBM eDiscovery Manager. IBM's eDiscovery software provides a strategic, in-house approach to more efficiently address discovery, privacy and retention requirements. Integrated with IBM eDiscovery Manager, Redact-It performs automated redaction on documents during the export phase, enabling organizations to process large volumes of documents in-house.

Quest Software, Inc. and Virtual Computer, Inc. announced a technology alliance to deliver a desktop virtualization and management solution that meets the end-to-end computing needs of large enterprises. The technology is intended to provide anywhere, anytime access to both centralized and distributed end user environments through the integration of Quest vWorkspace client and Virtual Computer NxTop 3.0 enterprise platform.
