Five Minute Briefing - SAP
February 27, 2013

Published in conjunction with the Independent SAP Technical User Group (formerly the International Sybase User Group), this monthly publication contains news, market research, insight for the SAP user community, as well as ISUG-TECH news and information.

News Flashes

SAP has announced two new number-one results on the SAP Sales and Distribution (SD) standard application benchmark for SAP Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE).

SAP is offering a new solution to help customers quickly adopt SAP cloud solutions by using a phased and non-disruptive approach. The SAP ERP HCM Integration to SuccessFactors rapid-deployment solution is intended to enable customers to keep their implementation on track, on time and on budget. The approach is comprised of integration tools based on standard APIs and pre-packaged integration content — both on premise and cloud-based — with the end goal of lowering cost, and increasing speed and simplicity for customers running hybrid deployment scenarios.

SAP and NetApp say they are tightening their collaboration with the goal of better supporting solutions such as SAP's HANA platform and SAP's NetWeaver Landscape Virtualization Management software. According to the companies, by complementing database solutions from SAP with NetApp storage and data management solutions, they can provide customers an agile data infrastructure for SAP applications that can help them be more competitive and reduce cost of ownership.

SAP AG has introduced a new version of its Sybase IQ disk-based column store analytics server. The overriding theme of this new release, which will be generally available later in the first quarter, "is positioning IQ 16 to go from terabytes to petabytes," Dan Lahl, senior director of product marketing at SAP, tells 5 Minute Briefing. To accomplish this, IQ 16 provides enhancements in three critical areas.

Think About It

Showing that there's more to the real-time SAP HANA platform than just business, the National Basketball Association (NBA) and SAP announced they have worked together to launch NBA.com/Stats, a new statistical destination on NBA.com giving fans interactive access to official NBA statistics and analysis.

ISUG-Tech News and Information

ISUG, the International Sybase User Group, has rebranded as ISUG-TECH, the Independent SAP Technical User Group, to better reflect its mission. "Once SAP fully absorbed Sybase in 2012, it made sense to make the change to reflect the new identity," Mike Harrold, executive director of ISUG-TECH, tells 5 Minute Briefing. "We also felt that it was critical to stress two aspects of our organization: that we are independent, and that our focus is technical. The latter in particular delineates us from the other SAP user groups which tend to be more focused on the business end users and not the developers, DBAs, and other technologists that are behind the scenes making everything work."
