IBM and Black & Veatch are collaborating to jointly market Asset Performance Management (APM) solutions, including remote monitoring technologies that combine near real-time data analytics with AI to help customers keep equipment and assets running at peak performance and reliability. According to the companies, as they are faced with aging equipment, tightening budgets, increased regulation and rapidly changing market dynamics, operators and engineers require increased visibility into their equipment performance and asset conditions. Remote monitoring technology can help organizations understand their assets better by providing a near real-time view of operations.

Several events each year, such as Microsoft Build in the late spring and Microsoft Ignite in the fall, were traditionally marked by a bevy of new product features and previews. In the old days, it was important to link new features to conferences because you had to press tens of thousands of CDs or DVDs to ensure widespread distribution. That's no longer necessary, so it's possible for us to see important new capabilities released to the public at just about any time. Let's talk more about a few recent and important announcements.

Whatever you think about NFTs, the increase in load on the Ethereum network has created another scalability crisis. Ethereum transaction fees are going through the roof, and delays on the network are increasing. If Ethereum is going to compete successfully against up-and-coming alternative chains such as Hedera Hashgraph, something has to be done to improve the throughput of the network. Luckily, we are on the verge of several big paradigm shifts in Ethereum with ETH 2.0, which may pave the way for greater throughput.

Microsoft has announced it is retiring Azure Blockchain as of September 10, 2021. The company asked that customers migrate their ledger data from Azure Blockchain Service to an alternative offering based on their development status in production or evaluation and gave advice on how to make a selection of an alternative.

Oracle announced Blockchain Tables in 21c in January 2021, and later made it available on 19c as well due to customer demand. Oracle is now introducing the ability to use Immutable Tables as well as Blockchain Tables. Immutable Tables, available in April, are insert-only tables and the data is not cryptographically chained.

A new book called "MongoDB Performance Tuning" takes a deep dive into MongoDB performance optimization. "We wanted to bring a 'floor-to-ceiling' approach to tuning, covering every aspect from the design of the document schema," said database expert Guy Harrison, who co-authored the book with Michael Harrison.

IBM and R3, an enterprise software firm, are collaborating to provide blockchain technology solutions that deliver high levels of performance, compliance, and data privacy. As part of the collaboration, R3 announced a new open beta program to bring R3's enterprise blockchain platform, Corda Enterprise, to IBM LinuxONE next month across the hybrid cloud—both on-premises and the IBM Cloud—delivered via IBM Cloud Hyper Protect Services.

Storj Labs is offering an integration with NEM to accelerate sync times for the NEM Symbol platform, improving the performance of connecting new nodes to the network and analyzing blockchain data. A new survey from Deloitte reveals organizations' changing perspectives on blockchain. Organizations clearly view blockchain as a top priority, according to 55% of respondents in the new survey versus 53% in 2019 and 43% in 2018. The survey also showed a substantial jump in blockchain adoption. In this survey, 39% said they had already brought blockchain into production compared to 23% in 2019.
