We've all seen the movie about the kidnap victim whose family asks for a "proof of life." The proof is typically a photograph of the victim posed with a current newspaper. Blockchain technology is now allowing us to provide similar proofs for the existence of digital assets. The immutable nature of the blockchain—the fact that it is impossible to overwrite time-stamped blockchain ledger entries—allows us to create "proof of existence" entries for digital assets.

Following an 8-month beta program with more than 700 registered participants, Fluree PBC has announced the GA release of FlureeDB, a blockchain database built for enterprise-grade applications. "FlureeDB is a product we have been building for 4 years now," said Brian Platz, co-founder and co-CEO at Fluree PBC. "It is a very innovative database in that it incorporates a lot of the features that people want and need today as they are developing apps but also incorporates blockchain capabilities in the core of how it operates."

Monax Industries, a provider of open-source blockchain technology, is releasing a business process engine written entirely in the Solidity smart contract language. The company is also unveiling a high-level API that allows users to input standardized Business Process Model Notation (BPMN) files and translate them into suitable instructions that can be operated by the full-featured and extensively-tested smart contract-based engine.

Syncsort, a provider of enterprise software, has joined Hyperledger, an open source collaborative effort to advance cross-industry blockchain technologies hosted by the Linux Foundation. As a member, Syncsort will leverage its Syncsort Integrate data integration and data quality software and expertise to help support development of the shared technology resources while accelerating innovation through open source leadership and participation.
