CommVault announced yesterday that it has formed a partnership with Informatica to deliver an integrated archiving solution that extends support to leading databases and applications, including Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, SAP, PeopleSoft, Siebel and other custom or legacy applications. This new technology partnership will enable CommVault Simpana software customers to easily archive large databases from mission-critical business applications, such as CRM and ERP systems, to better streamline e-discovery and improve database space management.

Information Builders, a provider of business intelligence solutions, and ParAccel, which offers the ParAccel Analytic Database, a massively parallel (MPP) columnar database management system (DBMS) for data warehousing and analytics, have announced a strategic partnership to speed the selection and implementation of customized advanced analytic solutions.

Microsoft Corporation has acquired Opalis Software, an IT process vendor. Opalis will be integrated into the Microsoft System Center product line. Opalis' IT process automation tools are designed to enable the streamlining of IT operations by removing of the overhead associated with manual response to IT problems. The acquisition "means that IT process automation will become a mainstream offering throughout all levels of IT shops, large and small," according to Todd DeLaughter, president and CEO of Opalis Software. "No coding or scripting is required to use Opalis so IT experts from operations to development teams can participate in driving IT efficiency."

Quest Software, a leading provider of management software for databases and applications, recently announced the availability of several new features in Toad for Oracle. Toad for Oracle is a comprehensive tool for database development and administration that enables DBAs to perform daily tasks efficiently and accurately. Some of the key new features in the newest version include the addition of Toad Data Modeler at no additional cost, predictive diagnostics in Toad DBA Suite for Oracle, and support for Oracle 11gR2.

SteelEye Technology, Inc., a provider of business continuity and disaster recovery solutions for multi-vendor IT infrastructures, yesterday announced it has formed a sales partnership with EnterpriseDB, which provides enterprise-class products and services based on the PostgreSQL open source database. Under terms of the agreement, EnterpriseDB will offer SteelEye's business continuity and data replication solutions as value-added options within its Postgres Plus product line. EnterpriseDB will provide its customers with a "one-stop shop" for the SteelEye solutions, which include SteelEye LifeKeeper for Linux and SteelEye Data Replication for Linux.
