Continuing its efforts to tackle the "big data" challenge, EMC Corporation has introduced the new EMC Greenplum Data Computing Appliance, an integrated data warehouse system using the Greenplum massively parallel processing (MPP) architecture.

Ingres Database 10, the latest version of Ingres Corporation's flagship open source database product is now generally available. Developed at Ingres and with input from the open source community, Ingres Database 10 now supports multi-versioning, column encryption, partitioning and faster bulk loading.

Pentaho Corporation, a provider of open source business intelligence (BI) and data integration software, has announced plans to enable Pentaho Data Integration for Hadoop to easily integrate with Hadoop data stored in Amazon Elastic MapReduce. As a result, Amazon Web Services LLC (AWS) customers can leverage Pentaho's ETL capabilities to deploy a hybrid data model to easily move data between Amazon Elastic MapReduce and databases, data warehouses and other cloud based and on-premise data stores.

Prowess, a provider of IT management solutions and services, announced the release of SmartMigrate - a free, wizard-based solution that enables migrations from Windows XP to Windows 7. Currently in beta but available for trial use, SmartMigrate is intended to offer a relatively simply means to help preserve existing applications, files and folders in native XP environments as they are moved onto Windows 7 machines.

The Pythian Group, Inc., a provider of remote database infrastructure services, has announced it has achieved four specializations under the OPN (Oracle PartnerNetwork) Specialized Program. Already a Platinum member of the OPN, Pythian has met a series of demanding technical and business requirements to earn the specializations in Oracle Database 11g, Real Application Clusters (RAC), Database Performance Tuning, and Oracle Linux. The specialized status serves as an indicator to both Oracle customers and to the Oracle team that Pythian is "a preferred go-to partner that they can engage" when facing complex problems.
