Oracle has announced availability of Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Release 5 (10gR5).With this release, the integrated top down management now extends across the full Oracle software stack, from applications to middleware, database, Linux, as well as virtualization. "Enterprise Manager manages everything from applications down. This is what we call top-down application management and because of our insight into Oracle technologies that these applications run on, we have a unique perspective into the diagnosis and remediation of issues and the whole lifecycle of these applications," Moe Fardoost, director of product marketing, Oracle, tells 5 Minute Briefing. "With this release of Enterprise Manager, we have fortified that offering and we have actually extended it in a number of areas."
Oracle has announced general availability of the latest release of Oracle Application Express, a free, rapid Web application development tool for Oracle Databases. Release 3.2 of Oracle Application Express introduces the Oracle Forms Conversion, a significant new feature to help developers convert Oracle Forms-based applications into HTML applications running within an Oracle Database. Application Express Release 3.2 also introduces many security enhancements.
Quest Software recently made a joint announcement with Microsoft, indicating that it will offer an Oracle Database Schema Provider for the upcoming release of Microsoft Visual Studio Team System (VSTS) 2010. Quest's new tool provides Oracle support for VSTS, enabling Oracle developers to fully participate with other VSTS team members throughout the entire application lifecycle. Previous to this, Oracle professionals could not benefit from the improvements in communication and workflow that VSTS offers. Oracle development in VSTS was limited, involved time-consuming manual processes, and did not support the system's new offline database development and design paradigm. With Quest's new tool, VSTS can now support both Oracle and SQL Server databases.
