News Flashes

Oracle University has launched an initiative to train business professionals on more than 50 technology job roles that are becoming more important to nearly every company. The new initiative is meant to address a growing problem as more businesses seek to accelerate their own digital transformations.

Oracle announced fiscal 2021 Q1 results. Total quarterly revenues were up 2% year-over-year in USD and in constant currency to $9.4 billion compared to Q1 last year. "Q1 was fantastic with total revenue beating guidance by more than $150 million, and non-GAAP earnings per share beating guidance by $0.07," said Oracle CEO, Safra Catz.

Oracle has confirmed that it has a deal with TikTok. In an announcement, Oracle said: "Oracle confirms Secretary Mnuchin's statement that it is part of the proposal submitted by ByteDance to the Treasury Department over the weekend in which Oracle will serve as the trusted technology provider. Oracle has a 40-year track record providing secure, highly performant technology solutions."

Think About It

For skeptics of the "putting all your eggs in one basket" strategy, history shows that building fewer, sturdier baskets can create strategic advantage. Take a look at the construction of airplanes. Bigger planes create economies of scale that make flying safer, faster, and more efficient. Oil shipments also move more safely and cost-effectively in double-hulled, automation-packed tankers than on large fleets of small craft. Data storage is simply another successful application of this consolidation strategy.
