News Flashes

Bradmark Technologies, Inc., an established provider of database tools for enterprise monitoring and administration, has announced the expansion of its seven-year global reseller agreement with Sybase, an SAP company, through the execution of an addendum granting Bradmark the right to sell SAP Sybase database products in North America. Under this agreement, Bradmark will offer SAP Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE), SAP Sybase IQ server, SAP Sybase Replication Server and Mirror Activator database products to its existing customers and prospects through its direct sales force and marketing campaigns in the United States and Canada.

SAP is offering new analytics software that bundles SAP BusinessObjects business intelligence (BI) solutions and the SAP Sybase IQ server, a high-performance data foundation designed specifically for analytics. The solutions help organizations of all sizes gain better insight into "big data" with advanced data visualization, self-service data discovery, mobile BI and predictive capabilities.

SAP has announced the first SAP Sales and Distribution (SD) standard application benchmark result ever for SAP Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE). Running on the HP ProLiant DL380p Gen8 server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.2, together with enhancement package 5 for the SAP ERP 6.0 application, SAP Sybase ASE achieved a new number-one two-processor Linux result on the two-tier SAP SD standard application benchmark.

The PowerBuilder Developers Conference (PBDC), which will be co-located with SAP TechEd October 15-19, will provide an overview of what's coming in the next major release of PowerBuilder, the roadmap ahead, and everything from PowerBuilder and .NET to deploying to the cloud. In addition, a PBDC pass will allow attendees access to the TechEd keynote, meals, and the special event on Thursday.

SAP AG announced the general availability of the SAP Enterprise Performance Management OnDemand solution. With mobile-ready applications powered by the SAP HANA application cloud, the solution enables business users to gain real-time insight into what is happening and adapt on-the-fly. "Built on the SAP HANA application cloud, SAP EPM OnDemand offers our customers another deployment option for extreme performance applications powered by SAP HANA. It's also complementary to — and extends the value of — the 10.0 version of SAP solutions for EPM with focused applications that are designed to be up and running quickly and help a broad set of users overcome particular business challenges," says John Schweitzer, senior vice president and general manager, Analytics, SAP.

Think About It

Are today's data systems — many of which were built and designed for legacy systems of the past decade — up to the task of moving information to end users at the moment they need it? And is this information timely enough? In many cases, there's a lot of work that still needs to be done before real-time information, drawn from multiple sources, becomes a reality. A new survey of 338 data managers and professionals who are subscribers to Database Trends and Applications reveals that real-time data access is still a distant pipe dream for at least half of the companies represented in the survey. The survey, conducted by Unisphere Research, a division of Information Today, Inc., in partnership with Attunity in March of 2012, finds that close to half of the survey respondents, 48%, report that relevant data within their organizations still take 24 hours or longer to reach decision makers. This suggests that much data is still batch-loaded overnight.

ISUG-Tech News and Information

ISUG and eLearnIT are hosting a two-day Workshop on Building SOA Applications with PowerBuilder, WCF & IIS on October 14-15, prior to the PowerBuilder Developers Conference at SAP TechEd in Las Vegas.

Unlike regular sessions, the coaching sessions will go beyond the basic presentation, delving into pre-presentation material such as the set-up needed for a demo presentation, full presentation details, Q&A so the attendees can fully understand what is being presented, and post-presentation materials such as reference materials.
