Reinforcing their OEM partnership, CommVault and Dell have introduced the Dell PowerVault DL Backup to Disk Appliance, powered by CommVault with Simpana 8. This latest addition to the Dell PowerVault product line provides integrated data management with scalability, cloud support, faster throughput, optimized deduplication and a smaller form factor for increased cost savings and operational efficiencies.

Dell has introduced a line of new capabilities and services for it Virtual Integrated System (VIS) architecture, intended to help customers transition workloads to a cloud-based infrastructure. Three new components - Dell Advanced Infrastructure Manager, Self-Service Creator, and VIS Director - are designed to better unify heterogeneous compute, storage and networking assets into a common pool of resources.

HP has announced a series of integrated solutions intended to simplify operations and accelerate IT resource consolidation, enabling clients to streamline their delivery of mission-critical application services to the business. The solutions include the next generation HP StorageWorks P9500 Disk Array and enhancements to the HP-UX portfolio for Integrity systems.

IBM announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire BLADE Network Technologies (BLADE), a privately held company based in Santa Clara, CA. BLADE specializes in software and devices that route data and transactions to and from servers. The acquisition is anticipated to close in the fourth quarter of 2010, subject to the satisfaction of customary closing conditions and applicable regulatory reviews. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Progress Software Corporation has released two new database drivers intended to expand critical connectivity features to more databases and formats. The new releases, Progress DataDirect Connect for ODBC release 6.1 and the Progress DataDirect Connect for JDBC release 4.2, include expanded bulk load capabilities that will improve the ability to stream bulk data from one database to another, and increased breadth of support for additional application configurations.

VMware, Inc., a provider of virtualization and cloud infrastructure, announced a suite of tools and assets designed to enable partners to create their own packaged solutions for repeatable and scalable value selling and delivery. The new offerings include new Solution Enablement Toolkits (SETs), enhancements to Partner University and additional training and certification options - including the VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP) level.
