Microsoft Corp. and Oracle are expanding their partnership to meet growing customer demand for Oracle Database@Azure, expanding the platform to five more regions—expanding the availability footprint to 15 regions globally. Customers can now place orders for Oracle Database@Azure in the Microsoft Azure Germany West Central region in Frankfurt. This marks the debut of Oracle Database@Azure in Europe, and the second region after Microsoft Azure East U.S. general availability in December 2023.
After Linux kernal support ended in January, OpenELA announced its commitment to providing a platform for developers to collaborate on the maintenance of the 4.14 Linux kernel. The OpenELA kernel-lts project is a repository that contains a continuation of long-term maintenance kernel releases hosted on kernel.org. This continuation follows all the upstream stable rules, does not target specific hardware, vendors, or users, and the patches are primarily selected from ongoing upstream stable kernels, according to the association.
QMware, a leading hybrid quantum computing company that provides cloud services, is collaborating with NVIDIA and Oracle to test and develop a new state-of-the-art hybrid quantum computing service for enterprise customers. QMware will use Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) powered by NVIDIA A100 Tensor Core GPU clusters, as well as the NVIDIA CUDA Quantum open-source hybrid quantum computing platform.

Database administration is a very technical discipline, but it is also a discipline in which the practitioner is very visible politically within the organization. DBAs should be armed with a proper attitude and sufficient technical knowledge before attempting to practice database administration. This column usually covers the many diverse technology issues with which DBAs must deal.
