Oracle 12.1 is the most significant release of Oracle Database in the past decade. It has several features — multi-tenant architecture, data redaction policies, enhanced statistics, and adaptive query plans — to mention just a few.
An array of other features in this version have the potential to improve database performance, scalability, high availability (HA), and disaster recovery (DR), not to mention increase developer productivity. Despite such a rich set of features, user adoption and migration to this version is below expectations.
