MicroStrategy is releasing an enhanced version of its signature platform, delivering a new set of APIs that will allow users to connect to almost any data source. MicroStrategy 10.7 also adds integrations with Natural Language Generation (NLG) providers Automated Insights and Narrative Science, letting users add Intelligent Narratives to their dashboards alongside their reports, graphs, and visualizations.

However, expect IT budgets to remain relatively flat—with the exception of cloud services, storage and IT consulting services. Overall, new IT purchasing won't be automatic—it will only happen as systems reach their end of life, or a significant new business requirement emerges.

Unlike the data warehouse - an approach based on structuring and packaging data for the sake of quality, consistency, reuse, ease of use, and performance - the data lake goes in the other direction by storing raw data that lowers data acquisition costs and provides a new form of analytical agility.
