IBM announced the zEnterprise mainframe server and a new systems design that allows workloads on mainframe, POWER7 and System x servers to share resources and be managed as a single, virtualized system. The new mainframe is also "the most powerful and energy-efficient mainframe ever," the company says.

The Oracle Applications Users Group (OAUG), the world's largest user knowledgebase for Oracle Applications users, announced that it has released the results of an OAUG ResearchLine study that focused on performance management solutions and methodologies. The study, conducted by Unisphere Research and sponsored by IBM Cognos, is based on the results of a survey completed by members of the OAUG. The purpose of the study was to measure the challenges enterprises face when adopting performance management, which leverages business Intelligence (BI), enterprise planning and analytic application software and services to help companies plan, understand and manage financial and operational performance.

Aiming to help organizations simplify application security, Oracle announced Oracle Identity Management 11g, an integrated and open set of best-of-breed components built on a common platform and engineered to deliver integration within and across the suite through a series of common components. Pitney Bowes Business Insight has released Sagent Data Flow v6.6, the latest version of its data integration and business intelligence solution. In this latest release, EnterpriseDB continues to enrich Postgres Plus by building enterprise-class capabilities on top of the open source relational database management system.

SAP AG announced today the completion of the cash tender offer for all outstanding shares of common stock of Sybase, a partner and a market leader in managing, analyzing, and mobilizing business information. Through this transaction, SAP said it intends to accelerate the reach of SAP solutions across mobile platforms and drive forward the realization of SAP's in-memory computing vision.
