In today's world, DBAs face considerable challenges in the day-to-day operations of the storage layers. This presentation will address how some of these challenges can be overcome. The presentation will primarily focus on a new storage solution introduced in Oracle 10g, called Automatic Storage Management (ASM). This presentation will look at: What is ASM and why ASM is required when we have so many storage solutions in the market? Is this new storage layer going to simplify the life of a DBA? If yes, then how?
Further, the presentation will look deeper into the architecture of ASM by understanding its logical structure, comparing traditional approaches and ASM, and offering insight into features like mirroring and redundancy with ASM. The presentation will also address the various ASM migration options.
