Posted Aug 27, 2009 - August 27, 2009 Issue Print Version     Page 1of 1

Last week the Linux Foundation, of which IBM is a platinum member, released an update to its landmark 2008 study of who contributes to the Linux kernel. Again, IBM was the top systems vendor on the list, which spans over 4 years of kernel development. Other notable results of this report compared with the one released in 2008, are that:

  • The number of developers has increased by roughly 10%
  • The average number of lines added to the kernel daily has nearly tripled

• The kernel code base has grown by 2.7 million lines

The Linux Foundation serves as a neutral spokesperson for Linux and generates original content that advances the understanding of the Linux platform. To read the report, go here.
