After years of endless talk about the potential of mobile computing, smartphones are beginning to seep the IT enterprise space. Underscoring this shift, IBM announced it plans to commit $100 million investment over the next five years into advancing mobile services and capabilities for businesses and consumers worldwide. IBM calculates that within two years, there will be at least one trillion Internet connected devices across the globe. While consumers are generating 70% of this digital universe, enterprises will be responsible for maintaining 85% of it-including security, privacy, reliability and compliance.
