Need for Storage is Not Going Away
Posted Jun 16, 2010 - June 16, 2010 Issue Print Version     Page 1of 1

Since Oracle completed the acquisition of Sun earlier this year, not much has been written about its plans for Sun's StorageTek business, observes Chris Preimesberger in a recent eWEEK article. But Preimesberger quotes Oracle CEO Larry Ellison as saying back in September that storage is going to be an important part of Oracle's business and that "there is never going to be a shortage of content to store." The article points out that while Oracle is investing in newer technologies such as NAND flash-based storage, tape storage also continues to be important to StorageTek going forward, with particular strength seen in modern tape technologies in the high end of the market such as the SL8500 enterprise-class robotic tape library. Read Preimesberger's article here.
