Third-party applications are a critical part of the IT landscape, observes DBTA columnist Kevin Kline in the latest e-edition of the magazine. Purchasing third-party applications allows organizations to dedicate in-house development resources to those things which are truly unique to their organization, Kline notes. In addition, he adds, by purchasing applications, organizations can avoid the need to commit resources to the support and maintenance of the application, since the ISVs will take care of supporting the application, along with future enhancements and upgrades.
