Crate.io Introduces CrateDB, an Open Source SQL Database

Crate.io is releasing CrateDB 1.0, an open source SQL database that enables real-time analytics for machine data applications.

CrateDB makes machine data applications that were previously only possible using NoSQL solutions available to mainstream SQL developers.

CrateDB combines SQL with the versatility of search and the ease of scalability of containers. It provides an alternative to existing analytic data stores including Splunk.

The CrateDB platform includes distributed SQL query engine for faster JOINs, aggregations, and ad-hoc queries; SQL with integrated search for data and query versatility; and container architecture and automatic data sharding for simple scaling.

Directors of engineering and CTO’s of companies who deal with machine data will benefit the most from this, according to COO Christian Lutz.

As Crate.io looks to the future the company hopes to grow even more and enable millions of SQL developer’s technology in a simple way, Lutz said.

“It’s about adding customers and further developing the product for integration with machine learning solutions,” Lutz said. “There’s a lot to do in the whole machine data space.”
