DataTorrent Forges Partnerships with Microsoft and Cisco to Extend and Improve Big Data Processing

DataTorrent is teaming up with two big companies that will allow it to provide access to better security and make adoption of Hadoop easier.

DataTorrent is partnering with Cisco to allow integration between its DataTorrent RTS platform and Cisco’s Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) through the Application Policy Infrastructure Controller (APIC), offering a unified management architecture for enterprises to manage their big data applications along with network and security.

A single, unified batch and stream processing platform, DataTorrent RTS enables organizations to reduce time to market, development costs and operational expenditures for big data analytics applications while Cisco ACI is a comprehensive Software Defined Network (SDN) solution, which integrates physical and virtual environments under one policy model across networks, servers, storage, services and security.

“It’s about bringing extensive security to your custom big data applications developed on DataTorrent in the Hadoop environment,” said John Fanelli, vice president of Marketing at DataTorrent. “It’s really bringing that secure aspect that wasn’t there into that Hadoop ecosystem.”

The joint solution will be available in the coming months. Along with forging a partnership with Cisco, DataTorrent is also integrating its platform with Microsoft Azure HDInsight via the Microsoft Azure Marketplace.

“Microsoft sees and realizes this need to make it very easy to bring data into Azure for rapid processing in a way that’s fault tolerant and highly scalable,” Fanelli said. “Customers can now go to the Microsoft Azure marketplace, click on one button, bring up their Hadoop cluster that has DataTorrent in it to make it easy for them to connect securely to Microsoft Azure to start processing big data.”

Azure HDInsight is a cloud-based Hadoop distribution powered with the ability to handle any amount of data, from terabytes to petabytes, on demand.

With the integration of DataTorrent RTS, Azure HDInsight customers will now have access to enterprise fault-tolerance, performance and scalability with greater ease-of-use for unified stream and batch processing

This partnership between DataTorrent and Microsoft technologies will enable organizations to accelerate time to insight, take action rapidly and gain greater business value from big data.

With DataTorrent RTS, Azure customers will be able to deploy DataTorrent RTS directly from the Azure Marketplace, Ingest data from multiple sources in an easy, security-enhanced, high-performing and fault-tolerant manner, and rapidly create and deploy batch and streaming big data applications.

“This is really around accessibility and ease of use to bring analytics in the cloud to everyone,” Fanelli said.
