IBM Beefs Up Mainframe Automation Controls

IBM announced it has enhanced the Tivoli System Automation family with a product focused on helping smaller zEnterprise customers. The IBM Automation Control for z/OS (IACz) product is targeted at single System z customers looking to move from manual scripting to policy-based automation.   IBM Automation Control provides goal-oriented and policy-based design that reduces the need for user scripts, enables start, stop, monitor and recover of z/OS applications and resources, and provides proactive automation from tight integration with z/OS ecosystem and many Tivoli products, including OMEGAMON.

“IBM Automation Control for z/OS V1.1 offers a powerful and versatile set of functions to automate IBM System z application environments,” Fillmore Bowen, Tivoli System z Marketing Manager, says in a blog post. “You get new tailorable, goal-driven, and policy-based technology to manage complex system and application automation challenges. IBM Automation Control for z/OS V1.1 eliminates most common reasons for writing manual scripts and to reduce dependencies on system programming and operations resources.”

IBM Automation Control is designed to monitor, control, and fully automate single system z/OS software environments as well as local System z hardware resources including Hardware Management Console automation for activation, deactivation, and for manipulation of IBM zEnterprise BladeCenter Extension objects.

IBM Automation Control also provides automation policies that help reduce complexity, implementation time, coding, and support efforts. In addition, the toolset provides system management and automation functions for hardware, operating system, and applications.

The toolset also includes policy-based automation that can start, stop, monitor, and recover z/OS applications as well as UNIX applications and resources. The solution integrates with IBM Tivoli software enterprise solutions, including IBM Tivoli Monitoring and IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler, alarm capabilities when integrating with IBM Tivoli System, automation for Integrated Operations Management.
