MapR Announces New TPC Express Benchmark HS Results with Cisco UCS

Hadoop distribution provider MapR Technologies has announced the results of testing based on the recently released benchmark for big data technologies from TPC (Transaction Processing Performance Council).  The TPC Express Benchmark HS (TPCx-HS) results were based on a configuration of the MapR Distribution including Hadoop running on the Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS)

The recently released TPCx-HS benchmark for big data technologies is a series of tests that compare Hadoop architectures across several dimensions, including overall performance and cost on an equal footing at the level of scale that is appropriate for each unique deployment. “TPC benchmarks are highly regarded in the industry and we are pleased to establish these high-performance standards for Hadoop,” said Jon Posnik, vice president of business development, MapR Technologies. “These results validate the scale, performance and availability of the MapR Distribution. We’re already seeing tremendous demand for the combined solution with Cisco to enable utility-grade Hadoop environments.”

Cisco is also now reselling the MapR Distribution with Cisco UCS, as part of an agreement that includes marketing, sales and training worldwide. “Hadoop has become a mission-critical platform for big data analytics and operational applications,” said Jim McHugh, vice president of Cisco Unified Computing System and Data Center Solutions Marketing.  “By partnering with MapR, we’re combining our powerful product offerings into a joint solution for faster time to value for customers.”

The published results of TPCx-HS include benchmarks at 1TB, 3TB and 10TB and can be found here.
