Oracle Enhances Oracle Content Management with Oracle Imaging and Process Management 11g and Oracle Forms Recognition

Oracle has unveiled Oracle Imaging and Process Management 11g and Oracle Forms Recognition. Both products are components of Oracle Fusion Middleware and are part of Oracle's strategic solution for Enterprise Application Documents.

"Basically, what we mean by imaging and process management is scanning and capturing physical and paper documents, and then putting those through approval or exception processing and eventually typically marrying that content up with an enterprise application of some kind," Andy MacMillan, vice president, product management for Oracle Enterprise 2.0, tells 5 Minute Briefing. In addition, he notes, a new product and capability, Oracle Forms Recognition, is the latest addition to Oracle Content Management. It is an intelligent data capture solution that can analyze, recognize, and categorize structured or semi-structured documents such as invoices, purchase orders, bills of lading, and claims forms. Together, Oracle Imaging and Process Management 11g and Oracle Forms Recognition are intended to help reduce the cost and complexity of imaging deployment and management for organizations across multiple industries, including financial services, retail, manufacturing and healthcare.

In addition to enabling enterprise content consolidation through a single repository in Oracle Universal Content Management, Oracle Imaging and Process Management 11g helps customers to content-enable business applications and processes via pre-integration with business software, such as the Oracle E-Business Suite and Oracle Business Process Management Suite. It is also intended to help customers improve business processes that span lines of business and include paper-based and electronic transactions; simplify deployment and accelerate time-to-value through a set of solution templates that provide pre-defined workflows, process rules, data forms and executive dashboards; and facilitate standards-based integrations and deployments based on a service-oriented architecture and Java Enterprise Edition-compatible infrastructure.

And, according to Oracle, with Oracle Forms Recognition, the information required to complete document-intensive business processes can be automatically extracted from documents captured by Oracle Document Capture and integrated into appropriate enterprise applications, accelerating business processes and reducing the potential for manual data entry errors.

The Enterprise Application Documents strategy was announced at Oracle OpenWorld last year, MacMillan says. "The idea is to provide a comprehensive strategy for the enterprise application for managing electronic and physical documents." This is the first major product release under Oracle's Enterprise Application Documents strategy, he notes, focused on AP automation and document imaging.
