Qubole Successfully Completes SOC 2 Type II Security Examination

Qubole, which provides big data-as-a-service, has successfully completed the Service Organization Control (SOC) 2 Type II examination, confirming that Qubole meets stringent guidelines for data security.

Qubole also recently announced the availability of the Qubole Data Service (QDS) on Oracle Cloud. With this offering, the Qubole Data Service leverages bare metal on Oracle Cloud to provide customers with fast access to analytics.

Leveraging the Oracle Cloud object storage architecture for separating compute and data lake operations, and Qubole's built-in connectors, the Qubole Data Service native integration with Oracle Cloud allows users to combine any data from Oracle databases, object storage data lakes, and applications with data from third-party sources for faster insights.

According to Qubole, SOC 2 reports are designed to provide information and assurances that the service delivery processes and controls used by a SaaS provider meet certain high standards and guidelines for data security, confidentiality, and availability. While the SOC 2 Type I report acknowledges that the controls a company says it is using are suitable, no evaluation is conducted to verify that the organization is using those controls, or that they’re effective. However, Qubole says, the Type II report which it completed, requires a thorough examination by an independent auditing firm, and attests that the controls are in place and effective.

In a blog post, CSO, vice president, IT & Security at Qubole, Drew Daniels noted that Qubole  opted for the much more rigorous Type II report because security is of high importance to the company as well as its clients. “Customers are processing more than 650 petabytes a month on QDS. Whether they’re using Amazon Web Services, Google Compute Engine, Microsoft Azure, or Oracle Cloud Platform, we help them extract value out of their big data while enabling their operations teams to be nimble and adaptive to their users’ needs—securely.”
