SAP Speeds On-Ramp for Businesses Adopting SAP HANA

SAP AG has introduced a new offering to speed adoption of the SAP HANA platform for customers running SAP Business Suite software. The offering automates the migration process through a series of preconfigured software, implementation services, standardized content and end-user enablement.

When doing database migrations, companies often struggle with insufficient planning and security regarding the effort and timeline for such a migration, Elvira Wallis senior vice president of analytics, Database Technology and Mobile Solutions Packages, at SAP, tells 5 Minute Briefing. In these situations, often, a lack of experienced and certified resources to conduct this technical project raises a lot of questions on the customer side. They are looking for an end-to-end solution based on their individual needs and this is where SAP Rapid Deployment Solutions can help tremendously, she noted.

“Delivered as a complete package with a modular approach, this SAP Rapid Deployment Solution allows customers to address their needs in a simple and pre-integrated framework that helps them unlock value quickly,” said Wallis. “It will help the customer to migrate without reimplementation and without disruption of existing scenarios, to work with a simplified process due to streamlining of steps, to ensure secured planning due to fixed price and timeline for the migration and to work with an end-to-end solution based on individual customer needs.”

According to Wallis, the combination of pre-configuration, innovative implementation tools and content, and a fixed-price and scope allows this rapid-deployment solution to be applicable to companies of all sizes.

The project begins with an analysis of the database and version of the currently used SAP Business Suite. It includes the installation and updates of the SAP HANA platform and the SAP NetWeaver platform to the latest version, and the update of the SAP ERP 6.0 or SAP Customer Relationship Management (SAP CRM) 7.0 applications to the latest SAP® enhancement package: SAP enhancement package 7 for SAP ERP 6.0 and SAP enhancement package 3 for SAP CRM 7.0. Lower releases of SAP Business Suite can also be addressed via the addition of an optional upgrade service.

The database migration is conducted to export the legacy database and import the data into SAP HANA. Customers benefit from an end-to-end offering that allows migration without a re-implementation, including a more seamless transition where existing processes can be used.

According to Wallis, SAP is not targeting specific source RDBMSs with this new offering. Any SAP supported database can be addressed as a source database, including one of SAP’s own databases as well as any non-SAP database, noted Wallis. The new solution can address Oracle, DB2, MS SQL, MaxDB and Sybase ASE as sources.  For more information, go to the SAP AG website.
