ScyllaDB, the next generation of NoSQL, unveiled Scylla Manager, a new addition to Scylla Enterprise, to improve the manageability and reduce the administration of Scylla deployments.
Scylla Manager centralizes cluster administration and automates recurrent tasks, such as periodic repair to Scylla Enterprise clusters, bringing greater predictability and control to Scylla-based environments.
Scylla is a drop-in Apache Cassandra replacement that is powered by C++.
“We continue to find new ways to reduce system complexity and automate database tasks so developers can focus instead on business logic,” said Dor Laor, CEO of ScyllaDB. “Our release of Scylla Manager is another step towards the autonomous database. By automating replica synchronization and healing, it saves users from the burden of scheduling repair.”
Administrators can use Scylla Manager’s sctool command-line interface to initiate and schedule management operations and to monitor the progress of the repair task at each point.
In its initial release, Scylla Manager automatically learns the cluster topology and keyspaces, and creates a default, once-per-week, full cluster repair.
Upcoming releases of Scylla Manager will provide rolling upgrades, recurrent backup, and will manage the full, lifetime orchestration of multiple clusters.
