Strategies and Technologies for Database Management

New technology trends continue to reshape the practice of database management as cloud computing, AI, and automation continue to change how data is acquired and insights gleaned.

As a result, database professionals are faced with new challenges and opportunities. Today, database teams are tasked with managing more databases, bigger databases, and a greater variety of databases — on premises and in the cloud.

At the same time, businesses are hungry for greater performance, scalability and flexibility to support next-generation applications and drive digital transformation.

DBTA recently held a webinar with Tyler Mitchell, senior product marketing manager, Couchbase, and Dhiraj Sehgal, director, product marketing, Delphix, who discussed the key technologies and strategies every database professional needs to know about today and for the future.

Systems are fueling interactions at many levels across all enterprises, Mitchell said. Enterprises are becoming more interactive than before, providing ecommerce, the supply chain, and the Internet of Things.

However, there are architectural challenges with massively interactive applications that include database sprawl, scale fail, and multi-cloud manageability.

The Couchbase database platform offers a solution that can integrate workloads, provide strategic availability, and offer containerized databases in the cloud, Mitchell said.

Successful data companies achieve a high velocity of innovation, Sehgal explained. The old way to focus on data contained a patchwork of systems and manual processes. The new way is to create a complete dataOps platform. This streamlines the operations to unlock cloud value.

Delphix can accelerate cloud migrations. Delphix shifts the migration curve left, significantly improves ROI, Sehgal said.

Delphix transforms hybrid applications by:

  • Masking cloud data
  • Offering non-disruptive, efficient data migration
  • Providing space-efficient data environments
  • Allowing hybrid cloud dev/test with on-demand data
  • Offering Easy portability across clouds
