Syncsort Unveils DMExpress 5.0; Newest Version Provides Application Acceleration with Lower TCO

Syncsort, a global leader in data integration, has announced the release of DMExpress 5.0, the latest version of its ETL data integration product for data warehousing, business intelligence, and other mission-critical applications. The new release combines functional enhancements and new platform support with ease of use, allowing customers to transform and aggregate even larger volumes of data from multiple, heterogeneous sources faster and at a lower total cost of ownership.

The functional enhancements to DMExpress 5.0 include support for extracting data from additional sources, namely SAP functional modules and direct access to mainframe data, such as VSAM and mainframe flat files; support for MicroFocus users to facilitate legacy application migrations, such as from mainframe systems to Windows; support for additional data types, such as Oracle Large Objects; and optimized data loading performance for the Netezza and Vertica BI platforms, resulting in significantly reduced data processing time. There is also support for Teradata version 12 as a new data load target; and additional standardization, cleansing, and validation functions to increase data quality, as well as "right-time" information delivery to ensure that data remains actionable.

The new release comes on the heels of Syncsort's achievement of a new ETL world record which broke the 1GB per second barrier. In November, 2008, Syncsort's DMExpress extracted, transformed, and loaded 5.4TB of raw TPC-H data into a Vertica Analytic Database at a rate of 1.6GB per second. Deployed on HP c7000 blade servers, the DMExpress solution also set a new cost standard of $46 per GB hour. Additionally, the version of DMExpress used for the world record was a straight out-of-the-box copy with no customization or optimization required.

Ganesh Iyer, senior manager, global product marketing at Syncsort, tells 5 Minute Briefing that there are a variety of product architecture factors that differentiate DMExpress. "The four main things which enable DMExpress to achieve its high-speed performance are our proprietary algorithm design, which we have been perfecting for 40 years; ongoing benchmarking and feedback from our customers which we incorporate back into the product design; dynamic optimization of ETL variables at run-time; and exploiting the specific platform/hardware architecture that DMExpress is running on for optimal performance."
