User Empowerment Meets Enterprise Data Governance in New Trifacta Release

Trifacta, which provides a data wrangling solution for exploratory analytics, has announced the release of Trifacta v3. With this latest release, Trifacta is enhancing the way it empowers users by updating its platform to focus on real-time productivity, connectivity, security, and better operationalization.

“The theme of this release is user empowerment meets data governance,” said Will Davis, director of product marketing at Trifacta. “In the past, data preparation and data wrangling was in the domain of IT but from day-one the focus of Trifacta is really putting data in the hands of end users or members of the business and allowing them to do this work for themselves.”

The release of Trifacta v3 establishes the requirements of enterprise-grade data governance, security, metadata and lineage for data wrangling along with featuring an array of new UI enhancements designed to empower a broad continuum of users.

“With Trifacta we are really focused on empowering those users to be able to leverage our tool and the different interface options we provide to allow them to manipulate data themselves and use it in a productive and intuitive fashion,” Davis said.

By augmenting the UI, users can now leverage a variety of different options when defining transformation logic to cater to different levels of technical ability.

This release introduces Transformation Suggestion Cards, visual “card” representations of Trifacta’s intelligent transform suggestions, allowing a user to work in a framework that best fits their skill level.

Additionally, Trifacta v3 expands connectivity to popular enterprise data sources with added support for connecting to an array of data sources including, AWS S3, XLS files, Hive and more.

Rather than implement a separate security framework, this release builds upon existing Hadoop security standards, including Kerberos. This allows IT departments to manage security within Trifacta and Hadoop in parallel, eliminating the need for a separate framework.

With added support for enterprise schedulers Chronos and Tidal, Trifacta v3 enables advanced operational transformation workflows created in Trifacta to run on specific schedules, according to the production requirements of organizational IT teams.

By integrating Cloudera Navigator, support for the Hive metastore, and lineage visibility within Trifacta, v3 augments the transfer and visibility of metadata and lineage created through the wrangling process.

“We wanted to make sure the metadata created out of this process is stored and transferred to other applications that data might travel to,” Davis said “We made sure metadata was tracked and transferred to other downstream processes within this release."

AWS S3 support is indicative of future plans to continue boost the platform, according to Davis.
