Intel Pitches Xeon-Powered Cloud Data Centers


Cloud data centers need a lot of horsepower, which has been natural turf for IBM with its mainframes and supercomputers. Intel, with its roots in the distributed computing space, says the value proposition extends to its Xeon processors as well. The vendor recently unveiled its ‘Cloud-in-a-Box' concept, which supports data centers powered by Xeon processors. Intel's multi-year vision for cloud computing - called Cloud 2015 - supports the the idea of cloud data centers that are seamlessly and securely connected or federated, as well as fully automated.
