Proof That Skimping on Mainframe Investments Hurts


It was reported that Stephen Hester, CEO of RBS, blamed a recent system outage on failure to keep its mainframe systems up to date. The outage, which struck in June, locked millions of customers out of their bank accounts. The culprit: software upgrade issues. Hester says while the bank's technology spending had been rapidly growing, more investments should have been made in core legacy systems. The lesson is that core enterprise systems are crucial to corporate operations and need to stay front and center in budgets.
