Connect With the IOUG at Oracle OpenWorld 2014

Independent Oracle Users Group (IOUG) members will be out in force at OpenWorld 2014—presenting more than 40 sessions on the topics you want to learn about most. The IOUG represents the independent voice of Oracle technology and database professionals and enables them to be more productive in their business and careers through context-rich education, sharing best practices, and providing technology direction and networking opportunities.

With so many advances in Oracle products within the past year, such as in-memory, and rapidly evolving trends like the Internet of Things, there is much to discuss with fellow Oracle database professionals and technologists, and I look forward to continuing the conversations from COLLABORATE 14. That is one of the key benefits of being part of the IOUG community at OpenWorld—the opportunities to chat in the hallway with people who have a shared interest in Oracle technologies, or to meet up at the User Group Pavilion to get your questions answered face to face.

Connect With IOUG at User Forum Sunday

The IOUG is enhancing the attendees’ experience at Oracle OpenWorld starting with User Forum Sunday on September 28 at Moscone South and continuing throughout the entire conference. The IOUG will have a strong presence—meeting with Oracle executives and advocating based on member input, providing insight, facilitating networking opportunities, and delivering educational sessions about the newest Oracle technologies.

For example, Oracle Database 12c represents one of the greatest structural changes in Oracle database, and, with a year now having passed since the initial release, there is much to discuss and learn from users’ experiences with options such as multitenancy, security, and 12c integration and interaction with other technologies. With IOUG’s notable depth and experience of database professionals as members, the IOUG has been involved in 12c beta testing dating back to July 2012 and continuing today. This is one significant example of the strong partnership that exists between the group and Oracle. Through this partnership, the IOUG showcases its continuing commitment to be an advocate for members, ensuring that user needs are communicated to Oracle. A key aspect of the value that the IOUG delivers is the knowledge that results from the hands-on, real-world experience of our members, which will be showcased during User Forum Sunday.

Opportunity to Learn More About 12c and Beyond

Last year was a big year for Oracle database professionals with the release of Oracle Database 12c. However, with a year under the product’s belt and with this being the first major conference since the June launch of the in-memory option, your attendance at Oracle OpenWorld will help you learn more about 12c. You will have the opportunity to network with users who have implemented 12c and kicked the proverbial tires on the many options available. Additionally, we expect even more information to be available on new features, patches, and options on this major release.

Beyond 12c, there is always information about new features for existing technologies and extended road maps for current products at OpenWorld as well. The IOUG will present sessions on additional topics that are most relevant to our members, including business intelligence, big data, cloud computing, engineered systems, OEM, performance tuning, security, storage, WebCenter, and strategic leadership.

IOUG Educational Opportunities

The call for presentations for COLLABORATE 15 is now open. If you are interested in sharing your experience with a new technology, technique, or trend you learned at or after OpenWorld, COLLABORATE 15 may be the perfect place to do it. COLLABORATE is a once-a-year opportunity to connect with the members of not one but three Oracle users groups (IOUG, OAUG, and Quest) as well as with the top names and faces in the Oracle community.

Can’t wait until COLLABORATE to share your experience? IOUG is always looking for guest bloggers for  #IOUGenius, across a wide range of Oracle products and issues. #IOUGenius is where we showcase the deep experience, unmatched skills, and impressive success stories of IOUG members and the greater Oracle community.

The IOUG is also a great resource to help you advance in your career and professional development by ensuring that you stay abreast of changes in the industry and take advantage of the year-round services and content that is provided through IOUG educational webcasts and the IOUG Master Class Series.

Make sure you take advantage of everything that the IOUG has to offer. Stop by and connect with us in the User Group Pavilion at Oracle OpenWorld in Moscone South. We will be there Sunday through Wednesday. I hope to see you there!
