ClearStory Data is making advancements and core improvements in the upcoming release of its native Apache Spark platform. With Apache Spark 1.6, ClearStory further speeds exploration on big, diverse data when business users need unrestricted data discovery and free-form exploration to answer new questions.

Data Summit, a comprehensive educational experience designed to guide attendees through the key issues in data management and analysis, is coming to the New York Hilton Midtown. Data Summit also features two co-located events: Hadoop Day and Virtualization Day. In addition, the IOUG will participate in Data Summit again this year presenting a track focused on big data in the cloud and the evolution of the data warehouse.

Datical, a provider of agile database automation solutions founded in 2012, has added $8 million in Series B funding, led by S3 Ventures with participation from existing investors Mercury Fund and Austin Ventures. According to the vendor, automation at every level is a key element of DevOps, but the database is often overlooked or becomes an afterthought when companies adopt this modern approach to software delivery.

As the largest ticketing agency in America, Ticketmaster is responsible for processing between 150,000 and 300,000 transactions a day, and 5,000 transactions a minute during peak times. To service its customers, Ticketmaster has used Dell's SharePlex for replication and high availability to support its online sales since 2002.

EnterpriseDB has announced the availability of the EDB Postgres Advanced Server 9.5, which offers enhancements for increased performance, scalability, security and manageability for business critical workloads. The company also unveiled EDB Postgres Enterprise Manager 6.0, which is integrated into Postgres Advanced Server 9.5, and features expanded integration with other infrastructure solutions, new alert functions, and an improved alert user interface.

Splice Machine, which provides a database powered by Hadoop and Spark, has added $9 million in new funding to accelerate product, sales and marketing efforts, bringing the company's total funding since its inception to approximately $31 million.
