Oracle today introduced the Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler. The standalone tool supports logical, relational, multi-dimensional and data type modeling while featuring multi-layered design and generation capabilities to produce conceptual entity relationship diagrams (ERDs) and transform them to relational models.

MicroStrategy has announced the availability of MicroStrategy business intelligence reports, dashboards, and scorecards on the Amazon Kindle DX, enabling MicroStrategy BI users to store, retrieve, and review business intelligence reports on the Kindle DX in PDF format while away from the office.

ParAccel, Inc., a provider of massively parallel processing (MPP) columnar database technology, has introduced version 2.0 of the ParAccel Analytic Database (PADB) for data warehousing and analytics. PADB 2.0 tackles complex business questions faster by leveraging dozens of new features and enhancements, including patent-pending innovations in query optimization and SAN integration. PADB 2.0 will be generally available in August, 2009 and can be licensed as software or as a virtual or packaged data warehouse appliance.

Panorama Software, a provider of BI solutions, has announced NovaView Version 6.0, a tightly integrated suite of web-enabled BI applications. Like past versions, NovaView 6.0 combines strong capabilities for query and analysis, formatted reporting, performance dashboards, KPI scorecards, modeling, advanced visualization and automated report distribution. It also includes new deployment wizards and applications, as well as a more robust platform.

Idera, a provider of management and administration software tools for the Microsoft SQL Server database, has introduced SQLsafe 5.0, the latest version of its high performance backup and recovery solution for Microsoft SQL Server databases. SQLsafe 5.0 makes it easy to setup and monitor an entire log shipping environment, with the added advantage of compressing database log backup files, saving a tremendous amount of network bandwidth and disk space.

The PostgreSQL Global Development Group has released version 8.4 of the PostgreSQL open source database. The new release contains 293 new or improved features, including many enhancements to make administering, querying, and programming of PostgreSQL databases easier. The most numerous changes in PostgreSQL 8.4 are new or improved administration and monitoring tools and commands.
