SAP has announced it has certified its products on Oracle Database 12c. "More than two-thirds of all SAP customers run their SAP applications on the Oracle Database today. There is a strong overlap," said Sohan DeMel, vice president, Product Strategy and Business Development, Oracle. "These joint customers are looking to leverage Oracle's best database technology."

The purpose-built accelerators are aimed at enabling organizations to address the challenges associated with managing project, program, portfolio, and contract lifecycles in their respective industries.

Teradata Analytics for SAP Solutions can now infuse near real-time data from SAP ERP applications into enterprise analytic and reporting applications. According to Teradata, the expanded capability can help organizations extract business value hidden within their ERP applications. "By providing access to integrated data in near real-time we're enabling our customers to make data from SAP ERP applications usable for business intelligence across the enterprise," said Scott Gnau, president, Teradata Labs.

Leveraging its partnership with SAP as well as its technology innovation in support of the SAP HANA platform, Lenovo announced its Lenovo System x3850 X6 has achieved an industry-leading result on the SAP Business Warehouse-Enhanced Mixed Load (SAP BW-EML) standard application benchmark. The Lenovo x3850 X6 achieved a record load of 1,542,060 ad hoc navigation steps per hour on the benchmark, more than 10 times better than the previously published winning results.

Oracle announced that fiscal 2015 Q3 total revenues were unchanged at $9.3 billion. Without the currency headwinds caused by the strengthening of the U.S. dollar, the company said total revenues would have been up 6% as measured in constant currency. "Oracle now has a cloud revenue run rate of well over $2 billion a year. We are already the world's second largest SaaS and PaaS company," said Oracle chairman and CTO Larry Ellison during a conference call discussing Oracle's third quarter financial results.

It looks like 2015 will be an important year for big data and many other technologies such as HTAP and in-memory computing. Many businesses have gone from investigation to experimentation to actual implementation. With installations coming online, and more to come in 2015 and beyond, big data will become more efficient and more customer-focused. Essentially, what many saw as hype will now turn into real implementations.

Hadoop distribution provider MapR Technologies has announced the results of testing based on the recently released benchmark for big data technologies from TPC (Transaction Processing Performance Council). The recently released TPCx-HS benchmark for big data technologies is a series of tests that compare Hadoop architectures across several dimensions. Cisco is also now reselling the MapR Distribution with Cisco UCS, as part of an agreement that includes marketing, sales and training worldwide.

"This acquisition is strategic, synergistic, and will strengthen our leadership in the big data and Hadoop market," said Shimon Alon, Attunity's chairman and CEO, during a conference call this morning discussing his company's purchase of Appfluent, a provider of data usage analytics for big data environments, including data warehousing and Hadoop. "We also expect it to accelerate our revenue growth and to be accretive to earnings." The total purchase price is approximately $18 million, payable in cash and stock, with additional earn-out consideration based on performance milestones.

In providing this reflection, data was summarized, data was cleansed, data was standardized, and data was even drastically reformatted for legibility and reporting usage. But, the big rule of thumb, the never-to-be-crossed line, was that the data warehouse did not create new data.

Cloud is being embraced strongly at Oracle. That is the message loud and clear from the company, which brought its CloudWorld to New York City on January 13. During the event, which drew customers, analysts, and thought leaders, Oracle offered an overview of its cloud strategy and the progress the company has made thus far in addressing consumers and enterprise constituents in the cloud. Oracle's cloud strategy is very simple, said Thomas Kurian, president, Oracle Product Development. 2015 is going to be a big year for big data in the enterprise, according to Oracle. Neil Mendelson, Oracle vice president of big data and advanced analytics, shared Oracle's "Top 7" big data predictions for 2015. "The technology is moving very quickly and it is gaining to the point where a broader set of people can get into it - not just because it is affordable - but because they no longer require specialized skills in order to take advantage of it," he said.
