Informatica has announced a new big data management solution called Informatica Big Data Management that brings together big data Integration, big data quality and governance, and big data security in a single integrated solution. According to the vendor, while more than 67% of enterprises see the big opportunity in big data, the majority of big data projects fail. Trove is the database as a service component of OpenStack that lets administrators and DevOps manage multiple instances of different database management systems (DBMS), both relational and NoSQL, using a common infrastructure. It makes database capacity available that can be consumed on-demand. This makes it much easier and faster to select and operate a database - while retaining all its capabilities - in a secure private or public cloud. The result is that routine tasks like provisioning, and managing regular administrative tasks like clustering, replication, backup and restore are handled in a simple, unified way.

Oracle has announced that the new Oracle Exadata Database Machine X5-8, the latest in the X5 family of engineered systems which integrate hardware and software, is now available. The new Exadata X5-8 offers up to 576 CPU cores, more than 1.3 petabytes of disk storage or 180 terabytes of PCIe flash, and up to 24 terabytes of memory. The Oracle Exadata X5-8 is the new companion model to Oracle Exadata X5-2 and incorporates the same storage and networking capabilities of Oracle Exadata X5-2, which was announced in January 2015.

Organizations are getting squeezed, said Mark Hurd, Oracle CEO, in his Monday morning keynote at Oracle OpenWorld 2015. They have old infrastructure; there is the need for innovation but also great pressure to do things such as increase security and adhere to governance mandates which are not innovative; and also pressure to keep costs flat, without increasing IT costs. "This is why the cloud is such a big deal," said Hurd, sharing his list of top 5 predictions for 2025.

To kick off Oracle Open World 2015, Oracle's annual user conference at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, CTO and executive chairman Larry Ellison detailed the steps that led Oracle be positioned in "every layer of the cloud." Ellison outlined the top design goals for the company in all three layers of the cloud - SaaS, PaaS and IaaS. These are cost, reliability, performance, standards, compatibility - as well as security, which he said is increasingly becoming a more critical concern.

Alteryx Inc., which specializes in blending and advanced analytics, is receiving $85 million from an investment round led by firms Iconiq Capital and Insight Venture Partners, along with Meritech Capital Partners. "Tools like Alteryx are really democratizing the way people work particularly when it comes to doing predicative statistical capabilities and be able to complement that with the data prep blending that is naturally happening in Alteryx today," said George Mathew, president and COO of Alteryx. "This generational shift is something that we are most excited by."

MongoDB is releasing an enhanced version of its platform, giving the company the opportunity to expand its capabilities to more users. "We're opening up MongoDB to a bigger audience in the enterprise, which is to say that traditionally the people that have used MongoDB were developers building modern applications and, with this release, we are building specific tools and capabilities targeted at data scientists, business analysts, and the C suite in terms of integration to business intelligence and visualization tools," said Kelly Stirman, vice president of strategy and product marketing at MongoDB. "We're also expanding MongoDB to DBAs and operations teams with specialized interfaces that make it easier to run MongoDB at any scale."

Following its separation from Hewlett-Packard Company, Hewlett Packard Enterprise made its debut today as an enterprise technology provider with $53 billion in annual revenue and a comprehensive product portfolio. HP announced plans to separate into two new publicly traded companies a year ago with one including HP's enterprise technology infrastructure, software and services businesses, doing business as Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, and the other comprising HP's personal systems and printing businesses, operating as HP Inc. and retain the current logo.
