Clinical Data Management (CDM) is a company headquartered in Colorado that provides clinical information database software, enabling medical institutions to report and compile data on patient care. A longtime user of Revelation Software, dating back to Revelation G and continuing through OpenInsight, CDM was pleased with both the quality of the products and the service from Revelation. However, CDM had come to realize it needed to provide a web interface for data entry to better support its customers and also stay current with evolving technology requirements. That need was answered when Revelation launched the OpenInsight for Web (O4W) Development Toolkit, a web development toolkit that makes it possible for OpenInsight developers with limited or no HTML, XML or JavaScript experience to develop feature-rich web pages.

Revelation Software has announced new features as well as patches and enhancements that will be added in OpenInsight (OI) 9.3.1. The new release will include O4W 1.3 as well as the OI connector for OpenQM from LadyBridge Systems. In addition, Revelation has announced that its next user conference will be held in Nashville, Tenn., in April 2013.

Rocket U2 has announced the availability of new offerings, including the U2 DBTools package, U2 RESTful Web Services, and wIntegrate v. 6.3. In addition, the dates have been finalized for U2 University, with the U.S. event taking place in downtown Denver May 8 to May 10, followed by the U.K. event from June 26 to 28, and the Australia event scheduled for August 14 to 16.

In line with its tradition of tracking Microsoft technological initiatives, BlueFinity has announced it is improving its business objects component (Solution Objects) to provide better support for data middle-tiers, such as ASP.NET MVC and web services feeding data to mobile devices. This additional support will include performance optimizations and dictionary-free access to MultiValue database content. The release of OpenInsight 9.3, the next version of Revelation Software's flagship product, is now imminent, and includes many new features eagerly awaited by Revelation customers. On track to be generally available by the end of the year, Robert Catalano, director of sales at Revelation, says that data encryption is among the major new components in OpenInsight 9.3. "Data encryption will be a key component that will be built into the database. It is data encryption at rest and that means that you can specify tables and fields that are sitting in on your disk drive and that data will be encrypted."

Rocket U2 now has an improved way of releasing clients and tools and instead of labeling them as UniData clients or UniVerse clients, it will now release U2 Clients and DB Tools that work for both databases. The first release, U2 Clients, consisting of the client APIs and DB Tools, will include the tools based on the Eclipse development platform.

Revelation Software drew attendees from not just the U.S., but also Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Germany, Switzerland, England and Canada, to its recent users conference held in Las Vegas. "We had representation from developers all over the world," says Robert Catalano, Revelation's director of sales. According to Catalano, attendees came for the education, networking, and in particular to hear more about Revelation's upcoming release of OpenInsight 9.3, which will be generally available later this year.

NGMC, a one-stop shop for credit information within the service industry, deals with clients on both a domestic and international level. The company migrated from its previous database management system to Reality in November in order to take advantage of the greater functionality that Reality provided.

The rise of big data has garnered much of the attention in the data management arena lately. But it is not simply the sheer volume of data that is challenging data professionals. Many new types and brands of DBMSs are also popping up across organizations, bringing new problems for the data professionals who are tasked with managing them, and also giving rise to scores of "accidental database administrators" with no formal DBA training, a new Unisphere Research study reveals. The results of the survey are explained in a report titled "Data Cross-Currents: 2011 Survey on Cross-Platform Database Administration," now available from Quest Software.

Rocket Software has announced that U2 DataVu has been enhanced to make it easier to combine queries and results then filter and quickly create reports and charts with a couple of clicks using the quick report wizard. The new release provides drilldown scenarios to enable end users to slice their data so they can drill into different views of their results. Additionally, in the new release, predictive analytics, flexible result set joining and appending, cross-tabulations and data normalizations together with result set filtering and improved parameter prompting, make U2 DataVu V2.0 significantly easier to use.
